Brickwork

New walls, garden walls, repointing and repairs, and brickwork that matches the house it is joining.

Brickwork is in the name because it is where the business started. We build new walls and blockwork, garden and boundary walls, piers and steps, and take on the repair work that older houses in Surrey and London always need — repointing, replacing spalled bricks, rebuilding failed sections, and chimney brickwork.

When brickwork is part of an extension, the thing that decides whether it looks right in five years is the match: the brick, the bond, the mortar colour and the joint profile. We take time over that before the first course goes down.

Repointing is our most common small job across Weybridge, Walton and Esher, where a lot of the housing is 1920s–1960s brick that is now due it.

Plastering & rendering

Skimming, re-boarding and float-and-set inside; sand-and-cement and modern through-coloured render outside.

Inside, we skim over existing walls and ceilings, re-board and skim where the old plaster has gone, and float and set new blockwork in extensions. Plastering is the finish everything else is judged by, so it is done properly rather than quickly.

Outside, we render in traditional sand and cement or in modern through-coloured systems that do not need painting, and we repair and patch existing render where a full re-render is not needed. Rendering also transforms tired brickwork — a lot of the “new” white houses around Weybridge are rendered originals.

We plaster every extension and loft we build, so the join between old and new is never somebody else’s problem.

Roofing

Pitched and flat roofs — new roofs, re-roofs and the repairs that stop a small leak becoming a big bill.

We re-roof in tile and slate, build the new roofs on our own extensions and loft conversions, and lay flat roofs in modern single-ply and GRP systems as well as traditional felt. The supporting work comes with it: lead flashings, valleys, ridge and hip repairs, fascias, soffits and guttering.

Most roofing calls are repairs — slipped tiles, failed flashing around a chimney, a flat roof that has ponded once too often. We will tell you honestly whether it needs a repair or a replacement, and quote for the one it actually needs.

Storm damage and slipped tiles get looked at quickly — a roof that is open to the weather does not wait for a convenient date.

Loft conversions

Rooflight, dormer and hip-to-gable conversions that turn dead space into the biggest room in the house.

A loft conversion is usually the cheapest way to add a bedroom and bathroom to a house in Surrey or London, and it does not eat any garden. We build all the common types: rooflight conversions that keep the roofline, rear dormers that add headroom and floor area, hip-to-gable conversions on semis and end-terraces, and mansards where the street allows.

Because we do the structural work, the roofing, the plastering and the brickwork ourselves, the job is not handed between trades. Loft conversions need Building Regulations approval and sometimes planning permission and a party wall agreement; we will tell you what applies to your house before anything is priced.

Hip-to-gable plus a rear dormer is the classic combination on the 1930s semis in Weybridge, Hersham and Walton, and it roughly doubles the usable floor area up there.

Extensions

Single and double-storey extensions, side returns and wrap-arounds, built from footings to final coat of plaster.

Most of the extensions we build are kitchens: a single-storey rear extension, often with the internal wall taken out on a steel, glazed doors onto the garden and a kitchen-diner where the old kitchen and dining room used to be. We also build side-return infills on London terraces, wrap-arounds, and double-storey extensions that add a bedroom above.

You get one team from the groundwork up: footings, drainage, brickwork and blockwork, the roof, the render or brick facing, and the plastering. Many single-storey rear extensions can be built under permitted development, but it depends on the house; we will tell you whether yours needs a planning application, and every extension needs Building Regulations sign-off, which we work to throughout.

Side returns are the London job; wrap-arounds and double-storey rears are what the bigger plots in Weybridge, Cobham and Esher ask for.
