Questions

Before you get in touch

Do I need planning permission for an extension?

Often not. Many single-storey rear extensions fall under permitted development, which means no planning application, though there are size limits and they are tighter for flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. Double-storey extensions and side extensions more often need an application. We will tell you which applies to your house at the site visit. Every extension needs Building Regulations approval regardless.

Does a loft conversion need planning permission?

Rooflight conversions and most rear dormers are permitted development on houses, within volume limits. Anything on the front roof slope, anything on a flat, and anything in a conservation area usually needs an application. All loft conversions need Building Regulations approval, and if you share a wall with a neighbour the Party Wall Act applies.

Do you do small jobs, like repointing or a leaking roof?

Yes. Repointing, brick repairs, render patches, re-skimming a room and roof repairs are a large part of what we do. Small jobs are how most people first use us.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Weybridge and work across Surrey and south-west London — Walton, Esher, Cobham, Addlestone, Chertsey, Woking and out to Guildford one way, Kingston, Richmond and Wimbledon the other. If you are not sure, ask; the full list is on the homepage.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We visit, measure and give you a written quote free of charge. You are under no obligation to go ahead.

Can you match the existing brick on my house?

Usually, yes. Bricks are matched by sample against the existing wall, and the mortar colour and joint style are matched too — a good brick match with the wrong mortar still looks like an extension. Where an exact match is not available, we will show you the nearest options before ordering.

Will you look after Building Control?

Yes. We arrange the inspections at each stage of an extension or loft conversion and build to what the inspector needs to see. You receive the completion certificate at the end, which you will need when you sell.

How do I get in touch?

Call or text 07717 147123, email ato.building@yahoo.com, or use the form on the contact page.

Something urgent, like a leak?

If water is getting in, call rather than email — a roof that is open to the weather does not wait for a convenient date.
